Artists in Schools

best sums up the first year of the partnership between Gorman Elementary School District and Frazier Mountain FOCUS Central, the mountain communities’ non-profit arts organization. The successful collaboration resulted an award of the LA County Arts Ed Collective Advancement Grant, being executed over the 17’-18’ school year.  Gorman’s Principal/Superintendent Joe Andrews, the teachers and staff, along with the Grant Management of Mary Pivetti, successfully brought in Singing/Songwriting with Allie Jo Thomas during the first quarter, culminating in a Winter Wonderland Holiday production. Over the winter, students got messy in Ceramics with Gigi Nommensen, while the spring boasts 10 weeks of percussions with Richard Schwagerl.  The Grants’ objective is to bring FOCUS art teachers into the school day to ultimately train Gorman teachers for future arts sustainability. The pictures resound the amazing success of the first year.
