Q: What is FOCUS Central?
A: Frazier Mountain FOCUS Central Inc. is an Arts’ based non-profit that brings Visual, Performing and Vocational Art Instruction and Productions to the Frazier Mountain community of Southern Kern County.
Q: How long has FOCUS Central been in business?
A: We began after-school classes in Fine Arts, Dance, Drama and Music in 2002 for all ages. In 2003 we introduced Musicals, Community Showcases and Summer Art Camps; 2004 brought on the advent of theatrical productions. Fifteen years later we continue to offer after-school programming, theatrical productions, summer art camps, recitals and field trips.
Q: What is FOCUS best known for?
A: We are best known for the enthusiasm and professional expertise of our instructors and for the quality productions showcasing our students’ talent.
Q: At what age can a child attend our classes?
A: Most classes are for children ages 5 through 12 years; however we accept older or younger students through our private lesson program. Art Camp is for kids ages 5-14.
Q: Where does FOCUS conduct their classes?
A: Our primary Campus is in Frazier Park at Reflexion47, although we do offer classes at the Kern County Library Frazier Park Branch, Peak to Peak Mountain Charter School, Gorman Elementary School, and the Boys & Girls Club. See our Calendar for a full listing of classes.
Q: Other than group classes, what else does FOCUS offer?
A: We offer Private Lessons, Art Camps, Teacher Workshops, Field Trips, Theatrical Productions, and Community Showcases.
Q: Does FOCUS offer sibling discounts?
A: Our instructors are independent contractors, and each has their own policy regarding fee structures. Many do offer sibling discounts; please contact each instructor for details.
Q: Are materials and/or musical instruments included in tuition prices?
A: Most classes have materials included in their tuition unless specifically noted otherwise in the class description. Students are expected to bring their own instruments to music class, unless prior arrangements are made with the instructor.
Q: Are make-ups offered if I miss class?
A: Many instructors offer makeup classes with a 24 hour notice, but policies differ per teacher. Most make-up classes are held on the same day as your regularly scheduled class. See teacher for details.
Q: Why must I sign a photo release when I take a class, attend Art Camp, or sign up to participate in a production?
A: FOCUS relies on photos captured from past successful activities to promote future events. Use of photos strictly conform to all lawful purposes. Names of minors will not be used in conjunction with their pictures.
Q: How do I register for classes or Art Camp?
A: Prospective students may register for after school classes in person or by mail. Please note: there is a one-time annual $10 registration fee per class to help cover administrative expenses. Pre-registration for Art Camp 11 now open.
Q. Are Art Camp 11 scholarships available?
A: Limited scholarships are available for those who qualify, as determined by the Family Resource Center. Call 245-4303 for more details.
